Jon Bon Jovi Addresses Richie Sambora’s Hate of ‘Runaway’

Jon Bon Jovi has addressed Richie Sambora’s criticism of ‘Runaway. ‘After the guitarist quit, Sambora admitted he loathed the band’s big song. The Bon Jovi singer spoke to Apple Music about his relationship with Sambora and his response to his statements. He said: “Our viewpoint, not mine. Our tale. Richie took months to offer his comments to Gotham [Chopra] and the editing crew after many sit-down interviews. I know because they told me.”

Jon seems unconcerned that Sambora disliked ‘Runaway’:
So there’s no ill will, and I simply said, “Hey, it’s okay if you think ‘Runaway’ wasn’t a good song 40 years later. It’s fantastic you joined my band. It doesn’t bother me. ‘Yeah it’s alright, it’s fantastic, it’s great.’ How often did John Lennon criticize ‘Silly Love Songs’?

Sambora Hates Early Bon Jovi
Richie Sambora departed Bon Jovi in 2013, yet he still resents playing one of their tunes. In 2014, Sambora told The Sydney Morning Herald about the song: The early Bon Jovi work is awful. Perhaps we lacked our style. Some like that stuff.” He reacted harshly when fans requested the song: “I hate that song!” Will never play again.” He hasn’t played since. ‘Runaway’ has a nice piano riff. This may explain why the guitarist doesn’t like it. Before joining Jon Bon Jovi, Sambora recorded this song. Video of the interview below.
